Vincent wins Lanark Highlands Forest Rally

Simon Vincent scored his first victory of the young 2017 OPRC season with a dominating performance at the Lanark Highlands Forest Rally.

Vincent and co-driver Martin Cadieux won all 4 stages of the morning loop, building a lead of more than a minute from their closest competition.

With Eastern Ontario having gone through heavy rainfall in the days leading up to the rally, the competitors were facing tremendously difficult conditions. Stages were covered in deep puddles, with the roads a mix of mud and gravel.

It was with this in mind that Vincent eased his pace for the afternoon stages. But while Vincent backed off, second-placed Nicolas Laverdiere and Vincent Trudel forged ahead, pushing hard in an attempt to draw level with Vincent.

The pair managed to shave several seconds off Vincent's lead, but were unable to catch the Subaru driver at the front. Nonetheless, Laverdiere's second place finish puts him on his first ever OPRC podium.

Patrick Rainville and Dominick Dumont rounded out the overall podium in third. The Gatineau driver pushed hard to catch Laverdiere in second, but settled for valuable third place points.

Jeremy Norris and Jeff Hagan came to Lanark looking to expand on their early lead in the 2017 standings. Unfortunately for them, a broken axle forced them out of the rally early on.

Zoltan Kovacs continued his recent success in the 2WD category, finishing first in class with Jonathan Desgroseilliers calling his pacenotes. Mike Halley and Mal Swann finished second in class, with Michael Ketchum and Savanna Kovacs rounding out the podium in third.

The 2017 OPRC season continues on July 15th, with the brand new Rally of the Voyageurs in Catchacoma, Ontario. The event replaces the Galway-Cavendish Forest Rally, which had previously been run in the same region.
